Things You'll Need:
- Screwdriver
- Wood glue
- Two clamps
- Brads
- Hammer
-
Step 1
Identify whether the frame is held together with glue, brads connecting the corners or a spline holding the two pieces together.
-
Step 2
Gently separate the corner. Old glue can be carefully chipped away or heated slightly until soft enough to be pulled apart. A joint with a single brad will usually pull apart easily, but a joint with two brads may require that you cut through the brads with a small saw. Use a screwdriver to gently separate a spline from the wood. Make sure you don't cut away wood from the frame, bend the spline or leave tool marks on the frame.
-
Step 3
Clean the corner. Scrape away the remnants of old glue.
-
Step 4
Reassemble the corner. Lay the frame flat on the corner of a table. Clamp one side of the frame to the table, and then apply wood glue to the loose corner. Replace the spline if needed. Position the corner until the inside and outside edges are smooth and consistent. Place another clamp on the adjacent part of the frame to hold the corner tightly while the glue dries. Wait 30 minutes.
-
Step 5
Hammer two brads into the corner, one from each side of the joint, unless the corner has a splint. Use a countersink to sink the brads slightly into the wood and fill the holes with wood putty that matches the existing stain.
