How to Use an Epoxy Adhesive

Epoxy adhesives have incredible strength, are waterproof and can bond almost any two objects. Here's how to use it to join most materials including glass, metal and wood.

Epoxy adhesive
Mixing ingredient
Gloves
Application stick

Step1

Select the proper epoxy adhesive for your project. They are available in liquid and paste formulas. And while they both yield the same result, liquids may be easier for smaller projects while the paste can cover a wider area. Decide which is best for your purposes.

Step2

Put gloves on and mix the adhesive, following the instructions on the particular packaging label. Most formulas require mixing equal parts liquid or paste, but the instructions can vary.

Step3

Apply adhesive immediately after mixing, using a disposable application tool (such as a wooden paint stick or paddle). Due to the strong bonding properties, epoxy adhesive can be applied sparingly. However, make sure to cover the joint or surface you are gluing.

Step4

Apply pressure to the glued joint. The adhesive may take anywhere from 5 minutes to several hours to harden and could take several days to dry completely.

Step5

Rub the glued area with soap and water if you wish to remove the glue before it has dried. After it has dried, use acetone (found in most nail polish removers).

Tips & Warnings

For applying epoxy adhesive to small areas, you can use a toothpick, or something equally as small and disposable, as your applicator stick.
This adhesive takes a while before it attains full strength; you won't be able to use the object for several days after it has been glued.
Wear gloves during the mixing and application.
