Weed wackers eliminate back-bending task of pulling weeds by hand. Wackers clear weeds quickly and leave a clean crisp look to any lawn or garden. They also make easy work of trimming along fences, garages, sheds and other buildings on the property.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide the type of powered weed wacker that's suitable for your lawn and garden needs: electric, battery or gas powered.

  2. Step 2

Buy an electric powered weed trimmer for quiet and savings on gasoline. You'll need to purchase enough extension cord to work the entire landscape.

  3. Step 3

Consider battery-operated models that use rechargeable batteries. Check out the different prices for replacement batteries, power and size.

  4. Step 4

Purchase a gasoline weed wacker for more power. These come in both gas and gas plus oil mixtures for 2 or 4 cycle engines.

  5. Step 5

Select the kind of blade that fits the job. Nylon string cord or plastic in various shapes come with most models. Nylon spools need replacing and plastic breaks, especially when striking concrete, so purchase extra spools or a heavy-duty blade.

  6. Step 6

Think of the features when buying a weed wacker: shaft height, ergonomic construction, ease of spool and blade replacement, weight, models with wheels, dual edging, weed trimming functions and cutting path.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy a weed wacker at any home and garden shop.
  • For protection while cutting the weeds, look for a trimmer face shield when buying your model. Some have flip-up visors and earmuffs to protect face and ears.
  • Never use one of these garden tools without gloves, long pants and eye protection.
