How to Make a Twinkle Fairy Costume
During Halloween, it's typically a time for children to dress up in costume and fulfill their wishes to be someone else for a short time. Many pick scary characters while others pick "pretty" or "heroic" costumes. Most little girls want to be sparkly or pretty at some point, and a Twinkle Fairy Costume is just right!

- Sewing machine
- Shiny fabric for dress
- Sparkly see-through fabric for robe
- Tissue paper or blank newsprint
- Sparkly trim
- Glitter spray
- Other fairy accessories

Measure your child. Using a sewing tape measure, take measurements of her height. Also know her weight.

Select a color for the costume. This can be your child's favorite color or anything else. Whatever color is chosen is the overall theme for the costume.

Go to the fabric store and pick out two coordinating fabrics. One should be a satiny type. A shiny polyester fabric works great. The other should be a partially see-through fabric. It's especially good if this overlay fabric has sparkles on it already. Pick a trim for the costume. This trim should coordinate with the sparkles on the overlay.

Make a pattern. Lay your child on the floor on a big piece of blank newsprint or tissue paper. Draw around their body loosely, in the form of a flowing dress. Add two inches to each side of this drawing and it becomes your front and back of the dress to be cut out. Using the pattern, again, for the overlay robe, cut out the back and the front. Cut the front down the middle into two pieces.

Sew the costume. Sew the dress front and back together. It doesn't have to be perfect, the overlay robe will be over it and may hide any small imperfections. If the dress is a little too big around the middle, you can sew on a large ribbon for a sash to help cinch it in. Sew the back of the robe to the two sides of the front. To finish the robe, sew the trim on the front two sides in the middle down from the neck.

Add sparkles. If the overlay fabric didn't already have sparkles on it, spray on sparkles using a glitter spray available at most any costume store.

Add other elements. A sparkly wand, a crown, wings or other accessories are available from costume stores and can be added to individualize your child's costume.
