Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Learn the basics of a wind power system. Grab a book like Paul Gipe's "Wind Power, Revised Edition: Renewable Energy for Home, Farm and Business." The book gives explanations of how to put wind energy to use for you.
Step2
Find a supplier of wind generators in your region by checking the phone book or searching the Web. Start with a statewide search to see if any suppliers are close by. Then contact them to find out more information about the products they offer.
Step3
Check the American Wind Energy Association's member directory. This national group promotes wind power and has a listing of companies that are involved in the wind industry.
Step4
See a wind generator in action by finding individuals who already have wind systems in place. This can be a great opportunity to see what an operating wind system is like, and talk to people about what they went through to get it in place. Ask your regional supplier to connect you with a user, or look online to connect with groups of wind power users.
Step5
Find the right generator for you by comparing brands and models. Consider your energy needs, the space you have available, the location, your budget and what technical support is available to choose the generator that would work best for your situation.
