Freshly picked strawberries are good on cakes or salads as well as just straight from the field into your mouth. Picking strawberries is fun and economical. You will save lots of money on strawberries you pick yourself and they will be sweeter than any store-bought you'll find. The trick is locating a pick-your-own strawberry farm.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Ask at your local farmer's market where the vendors get their strawberries. Many farmers sell strawberries at the farmers market from their own farm and offer farm visits as well. The vendors at the farmer's market also know others in the area in the business of selling strawberries and other produce. Ask where a pick-your-own strawberry farm is located.
Step2
Visit Pick Your Own's website. Pick Your Own is a nonprofit corporation that has a list of several farms selling all sorts of produce and fruit. Go to the website and choose your state, and then choose "strawberries." Contact the strawberry farm to find out if strawberries are in season and what the farm's hours of operation are.
Step3
Stop by a farm stand on your drive home. Many areas have strawberry stands along the roadside. The strawberry stands are often operated by employees and owners of strawberry farms, so ask if their farm is open to the public. If not, ask if they know of a local farm that is open to the public.
Step4
Ask a local school about local farms. Schools go on field trips to farms, and when strawberries are in season in late spring to early summer, many schools go on field trips to pick the berries. Contact the field trip coordinator at your local elementary school and ask what farms the school can recommend.
