How to Spot-Reduce

The bad news is that you can't take the easy way out to spot-reduce specific body parts through supplements or special equipment, so save your money on the pills, creams and contraptions that are supposed to work a single body part. Instead, spend your time and money on what really will work: diet and exercise.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Stop spending your time working a single body part in the interest of working off the fat. The exercises you're doing for your stomach or legs are beneficial to the strength and movement of your whole body, but they won't burn off the fat.
Step2
Spend 3 days a week at the most on a weightlifting program that works your entire body in an efficient way. By working your entire body, you will reshape it enough to reduce or eliminate the body part you're not happy with.
Step3
Stick to your diet. Your body needs fuel to make the changes you're asking of it. Feed yourself plenty of healthy food, staying away from the fatty stuff, so your body can lose fat.
Step4
Recognize that genetics plays a part in how you look, and some features can't be changed no matter how much you work out.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sometimes, there's nothing more boring than the same old exercise routine. Reward yourself for spending three days at the gym by doing something fun on the weekend such as biking at the beach or taking a nature hike. Remember that fitness isn't all about work—it allows us to have fun, too.
