So much is advertised about children with ADHD and behavioral issues, but this article is about how to help a child who is shy.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Patience
  • Time

Step1
Never push your child to anyone they are shy towards. In time, shy kids will warm up to whomever they feel comfortable with.
Step2
Don't label your child as "shy". If you feel the need to explain your introverted child, just say he or she is slow to warm up to people he or she doesn't know.
Step3
Teach your child social skills by being overy friendly and talkative when your child is with you to friends, cashiers, mail people etc. Another way to teach socialization is to role play with your child using puppets or stuffed animals or dolls.
Step4
Consistently expose your child to public social gatherings such as the park or library and let them watch from a safe distance without pushing them to join in.
Step5
Have your child evaluated by physcologist if the shyness is interefering with every day life such as uncontollable crying or clinging.
Step6
Always remember that you as a parent did not cause your young child to be shy. Also remember that some shyness is not all that bad. Shy children spend a lot of time observing and are usually the best behaved at school.
