Everyone loves fireworks, yet they can be dangerous. But if you want a spectacular display without the risks take the children to a local display and remember the sparklers.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Local paper or listings
  • Protective clothing

Step1
The best place to find a display near you is to look in the local paper, local Internet listings and look for information in your town centre. The bigger the venue the bigger the display, although they can be extremely popular so if you have got young kids a smaller area may be a good choice.
Step2
The appropriate clothing is very important to watch fireworks, many displays are held in November, which can be pretty cold. Wrap up warm making sure that hands are covered, especially if your kids want to hold sparklers. As they are usually held in local parks or fields the ground can be very muddy, Wellington boots are great to avoid muddy feet
Step3
Getting to and from the fireworks can prove difficult, try to find a display you can walk to from your home, if that’s not possible park your car away from the main entrance so that you don’t have to sit in traffic once its finished.
Step4
Public displays can be very busy with hundreds of people attending it is very easy to loose sight of your children in the crowd. Wearing bright colours, or a one family colour can help. Small children should be strapped into buggies, holding hands can sometimes be very difficult child leads are a good alternative for kids over 5 years old.
Step5
Although most children enjoy the bright lights and loud noises, for those under 5 the bangs can be scary so be prepared. In winter, earmuffs and hats are great for minimising the noise, and for summer girls can wear Alice bands and boys a bandana to cover their ears.
Step6
Once the display has finished there is usually a stampede to get out of the venue, avoid this by hanging back until the main crowds have left or leave just before the end and watch the finale as you walk out.

Tips & Warnings

  • Most pets don't like fireworks, so don't take them along and make sure they are safe indoors
