How to Stick Rhinestones to Glass How to Stick Rhinestones to Glass

Rate: (3 Ratings)

This article will describe how to adhere rhinestones to glass. For that matter, using this technique you can stick almost anything to anything. All of the adhesives listed in this article clear and very viscous (thick).

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Industrial adhesive E-6000,or
  • Geocel 8125 or,
  • Geocel 2300.
  • Naphtha or
  • Acetone
  • Small flat sticks
Step1
You will need to acquire at least one of the adhesives shown in the picture and also described in the "Things you will need" list.
The E-6000 adhesive can be purchased from almost any craft supplies store or hardware store.
The Geocel products are preferable but may be the most difficult to come by. Here is their web site and from here you can contact the company to find out where the products are available near you.

Step2
When you get the adhesive and your articles all together in one place you will need to clean all your articles. The rhinestones can be put in a glass bowl with some acetone then set out on a napkin to dry. The glass article must be wiped clean with either naphtha or acetone using a clean soft clean cloth.
Step3
On a drawing or picture of you glass article, mark the location where you want to put the rhinestones before you begin. If you know where you want the rhinestones then you may proceed at any time.
Step4
The E-6000 dries extremely quickly so work rapidly and place a daub using the wooden sticks on a rhinestone and place it on the glass. It will stay where you put it. If you get too much adhesive on, just leave it or wipe the whole thing off and start over. The adhesive dries clear so chances are you won't see if you get too much on.
Step5
* The Geocel products require the same technique as the E-6000. The products are clear and all about the same consistency. They all should perform in an equal and satisfactory manner.

Tips & Warnings

  • I would be a good idea to practice a little bit by sticking some practice things together before you actually start on your project. This will give you some experience on just how much adhesive to use. Too little is not good. Too much, well, that will not look good.
  • The adhesives are flammable until dry.
  • The Naphtha is flammable.
  • Acetone is flammable.
  • Use caution when handling any of them.
  • Use a breathing mask and rubber gloves if you are sensitive to petroleum fumes.

on 12/19/2007 Just some minor mechanics. This sentence is missing the word "are": All of the adhesives listed in this article *are* clear and very viscous (thick).

In this sentence fragment, "you" should be "your:" On a drawing or picture of you(r) glass article

And in this one, "I" should be "It: I(t) would be a good idea to practice a little

I was told we should not reference a web page within a step, only at the end of the article in the "links" section.

Other than those minor mechanics, the article is very informative.

on 12/9/2007 I love E-6000! It works for so many things...I used to use it when I worked with ceramics, to adhere decorations! Thanks for this article. I'll have to check Geocel out...never used it!
