A small notebook (make sure it fits in your purse, it will be traveling a lot)
An imagination
Your dreams
A phonebook or whitepages.com
Step1
Make a list of everything you need to arrange. Ex. food, flowers, cakes, paperware, photographer, etc.
Step2
Decide what areas can't be changed. For example if you have a special dressed already picked out, that's not the place to try to save money. I found my dress in a bridal store changing gown lines, so it was a $500 dress for $99!!
Step3
Talk to people and find out where you can get things you may not have thought of. Publix (a grocery store) did the flowers and cakes for my wedding. I have had so many compliments on my flowers, you wouldn't believe it! Also consider things like, are imprinted napkins a must? If not, spend the money on your new dishes for your house.
Step4
Decide on your favorite food, rather than the fancy stuff. Do people really enjoy boiled chicken with unidentifiable sauce? Pick easy, common foods and you'll save a ton.
Step5
Capture the memories of your special day for less. Professional photographers charge a lot and are frequently hard to find available. Talk to people, find someone who has taken courses, a student in a local photography program or a newspaper photographer. Your results will still be great, but you won't be paying for the name. Not to mention, you can typically get these people to give you the proofs, meaning your future photos can be printed anywhere for the best price you can find.
Tips & Warnings
Don't forget this is your special day and it is to be enjoyed. Don't stress over the details. Fill them in your little notebook as quickly as you can. As long as you have your marriage license, who cares if your hair falls, you'll still be married by the end of the day!

Cutting corners by hiring an amateur wedding photographer is a BIG mistake. Aside from the rings, your wedding photographs will be the one lasting momento of your big day. Your photographer should be right there with the venue on your list of priorities. Skimp on everything else, but DON'T skimp on your photography.

Also - once you have your officiant picked out, ask him or her to recommend vendors. Odds are he/she knows plenty! They've performed maybe hundreds or thousands of weddings and know who does excellent work for a smaller price. You can save money on the DJ, flowers, catering, location and more - just ask your officiant!
