Britain is a country with a long history of gambling, particularly on sporting events. The most efficient way to place bets in Britain is to open an account with a bookmaker. In the age of the internet, you can do this online.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Valid Credit/Debit card
  • Postal address
  • Email address
  1. Step 1

Select which British bookmaker you would like to open an account with. Different bookmakers specialize in different types of betting, so select the bookmaker that suits your individual needs.

  2. Step 2

Find the bookmaker’s website, and locate the section on the website labeled "Register," "Open Account" or something similar. You will be presented with a form.

  3. Step 3

Fill in the form. This will require your name, current address and bank account details. You will probably also need to enter a current email address and phone number. You will then be instructed to create a username and password, so that you can log in and out of your account.

  4. Step 4

Select your betting currency and pre-set your limits on betting frequency and the size of your deposit.

  5. Step 5

Confirm that you are over 18 and have read the rules of the bookmaker.

  6. Step 6

Deposit money into your account. This will be deducted from the bank account you have registered. The amount you have in your bookmaker account is the maximum that you can gamble.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also open an account face to face by visiting a bookmaker’s branch. The same information you supply online will be required.
  • It pays to familiarize yourself with the way the bookmaker you have selected operates before placing large bets.
  • Some bookmaker’s require you make an initial deposit before opening an account. In most cases, this will be a minimum of £10.
  • In Britain, it is a criminal offence for a bookmaker to enter a betting transaction with someone that they know is under 18.
  • Bets are not legally protected in Britain, although the system is generally reliable. Choose a reputable bookmaker to minimize any chance of fraud.
  • Take particular care when registering bank account details online, particularly on public computers.
