Things You'll Need:

  • A valid form of identification
  1. Step 1

Decide what type of club you would like to go to. Glasgow has a huge selection of clubs, each offering greatly varying music, drinks, and atmospheres.

  2. Step 2

Check these variables in advance to avoid disappointment. Certain clubs have nights which are free entry to everyone, and the internet is the easiest way to find out this information in advance.

  3. Step 3

Select your outfit in line which what kind of club you wish to attend. While clubs in Glasgow are normally fairly relaxed on dress codes, there are some that will refuse you entry if you are wearing training shoes.

  4. Step 4

Go to one of the city’s many busy pubs beforehand. Here you will likely come across club publicity workers who will often have free club passes to give out. Glasgow is generally a friendly city, so don’t be afraid to ask those around you for advice as to where the hottest free clubs are that particular night.

  5. Step 5

Check your table in the pub, as a large amount of flyers and sometimes even free passes are left there. These are a valuable resource.

  6. Step 6

Plan to arrive at your chosen club before midnight, as many free entrance offers cease at this time.

Tips & Warnings
  • Clubs in Glasgow are generally open from 10.30pm until 3am, although this maybe earlier on weekdays. They will normally not become busy until after midnight.
  • If you wish to see a live band or go to an established club night, it is unlikely that free entry will be offered.
  • Always bring a valid form of identification, such as passport or driver’s license. If you are a student, do not forget your student card, as many free entrance offers depend upon proof of student status.
  • Often weekdays, particularly Thursdays, will offer more chance of a good night for free. Glasgow is a student city, and as such is busy on almost all nights of the week.
  • Glasgow’s subway service does not run after midnight, and getting a taxi after leaving a club can be difficult. If you know where you are going and what time you will be leaving, it is wise to book a taxi in advance.
  • Queues, especially at weekends, can be long and boisterous.
  • Free entry may just mean that you will be charged more once you get inside, either for the cloakroom or for drinks.
  • If you are too obviously drunk, you will be refused entrance.
  • Often you do get what you pay for; clubs that offer free entry frequently do so because they are struggling to attract paying clientele.
  • Glasgow, while renowned as a friendly city, can be an intimidating place, especially on a Friday or Saturday.
  • It is now against the law to smoke inside any pub or club in Scotland.
