1
Decide what you want to get out of an internship. Many interns hope to learn new skills, gain networking connections, and add work experience to their resumes. Some hope that the internship is an entry point that could lead to a full-time position with the employer after graduation.
-
2
Think about the type of organization you'd like to work for. There are drastically different choices, from huge Fortune 500 companies to tiny nonprofits. Think about size, culture and dynamics when considering the types of organizations you're interested in.

3
Determine what field best suits you. The opportunities are nearly limitless, though some positions will fit you better than others. If you're interested in sales, know that selling pharmaceuticals is quite different than selling car insurance. Marketing telephone service is not at all like marketing toothpaste.
-
4
Consider where and when you want to intern. If you want to be adventurous and move across the country for an internship, you may need to do it over the summer unless you take a semester off of school. If you'd rather stay home where you can financially benefit from free housing, you may be more flexible in terms of timing.
-
5
Decide if you'd like to get college credit for your internship. Discuss this with your academic advisor while looking into internships.
-
6
Prepare and polish your professional skills. Develop a quality resume, take advantage of mock interviews your school may offer, and learn about business etiquette.
-
7
Look at your school's bulletin boards and online for posted internships. Talk with your business school's advisors for help pointing you in the right direction. They are a great resource to utilize.
-
8
Apply for internships that seem to be a potential fit for you, and plan interviews when contacted.
