Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Make use of the space under the bed. If your bedding includes a bed skirt, you can hide everything that's tucked away in plastic bins, boxes and bags. There are plastic storage bins made specifically for under the bed storage, and if you prefer, you can fashion your own under-bed drawer by using an old dresser drawer with wheels attached to the bottom.
Step2
Check out your available wall space. The walls of a bedroom provide a lot of opportunity to store just about anything, from photos and books to keepsakes and important papers. Install attractive shelving units on empty walls and fill them with everything you want to display. Or buy decorative boxes, fill them with paperwork and records, label them and keep them on the shelves. At first glance, no one will realize that the boxes aren't just for show.
Step3
Assign your furniture double duty. If bedroom space and storage is at a premium, have as many pieces of furniture as possible serve a purpose besides decoration. For bedside tables, use small dressers or a table with a table skirt where you can stack storage boxes without being seen. Rather than put a chair in your bedroom to sit on while dressing, use a storage bench instead.
Step4
Minimize bulky storage options by using your vacuum. You can now buy special bags designed for vacuum packing. They let you cut down on the space taken up by bags by sucking out space-taking air with your vacuum.
Step5
Put corners to good use. Corners in any room are often overlooked, and in the bedroom, not using them to their full potential is a lost opportunity. Furniture is usually place against walls and centered, leaving corners unused. Simply adding a corner shelving unit can give you more space to store linens, perfumes and personal daily items such as your watch, purse or wallet.
Step6
Invest in a few organizing tools. You can increase your space by buying drawer dividers and stackable wire shelves for armoires.
Step7
Rethink traditional uses for traditional spaces. You can turn just about any space in a bedroom into a storage solution, such as converting a bay window into a window seat with storage underneath. If you have wide windowsills, place photos, books or boxes on them. Decorative storage boxes can be placed on mantels and on the tops of armoires.
