When you think of getting a new look in your kitchen, color can be a powerful decorating element. Adding color accents can transform your kitchen without costing a mint or changing a single cabinet or fixture.

1. Display colorful dishes. Your colorful dishes aren't just for serving food; you can decorate with them as well. Stand them up along the edge of the cabinet for a colorful display, and leave a large colorful platter out on the kitchen counter when it's not in use.

2. Install glass cabinet doors. Take the doors off your dish cabinet or the one where you store glasses. Either leave the cabinets as open shelves or install glass cabinet doors. To decorate, neatly stack your most colorful pieces in those cabinets. This may be an excuse to go out and buy colorful glassware for your kitchen.

3. Add curtains to the windows. Curtains give you an easy way to bring in a large splash of color. If you have a window in your kitchen, you can install a curtain rod near the ceiling and make it wider than the window to increase the impact of the curtains on your décor.

4. Hang towels in plain sight. Instead of using that rack under the sink, decorate by hanging towels where they can be seen. Try putting one through the oven handle or the handle on the refrigerator. You can also install a ring towel holder on the front of a cabinet door and hang a colorful towel there. Decorating with towels is inexpensive and lets you change the room's colors easily.
