Dressing up as Dorothy from the "Wizard of Oz" can be fun and simple. With an investment of time and little creativity, this classic costume can take you up that yellow brick road to see the wizard.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Costume pattern
  • Blue and white gingham fabric
  • White short-sleeved blouse
  • Blue rickrack
  • Ruby slippers
  • Picnic basket
  • Small stuffed dog
  1. Step 1

Buy a sewing pattern for a Dorothy Halloween costume. The local Wal-Mart or K-Mart will carry Simplicity or McCall's patterns for this purpose. Purchase the correct amount of fabric as instructed by size on the back of the pattern. Make sure the fabric is blue and white gingham. Be sure to pick up all sewing accessories like thread while there. Follow the directions on the pattern.

  2. Step 2

Find a white short-sleeved blouse. These can usually be found at any ladies' clothing store or a thrift store. Sewing a piece of blue rickrack around each sleeve makes a nice addition.

  3. Step 3

Purchase a pair of ruby slippers. Sometimes Wal-Mart or Payless carries red glitter-covered shoes. If not, any pair of red shoes will do. To make them sparkle, cover them in a bit of spray adhesive and add glitter. Remember that Dorothy wears blue ankle socks instead of white.

  4. Step 4

Locate a picnic basket and a stuffed dog to be Dorothy's Toto, the terrier from the Wizard of Oz story. Make sure the stuffed dog is small enough to fit in the picnic basket. Place the toy dog in the basket.
