Visit the official OnStar website. The website provides general information about how OnStar works, along with package prices and a breakdown of services. If you don't have access to the Internet, the toll-free phone number 1-888-4-ONSTAR is available 24 hours a day.

Choose an OnStar subscription plan for your vehicle. Visit the OnStar website or call 1-888-4-ONSTAR to learn about the plans. New vehicles manufactured from 2004 until the present receive the first year of OnStar for free; vehicles manufactured before 2004 that are equipped with OnStar technology must first choose a plan before activation.

To activate OnStar, push the blue OnStar button located near the rear view mirror. An OnStar representative will respond and speak with you about the services available for your vehicle. If an automated voice answers, push the blue button again to speak with a representative.

Ask the representative for instructions on how to use the specific services you chose for your vehicle. Services available include navigation, roadside assistance, hands-free calling, remote door unlock and crisis assistance.

also, READ YOUR AGREEMENT TERMS. I have. You can be tracked and stopped,if law enforcement gets a court order (ie. judge to sign piece of paper then faxed to onstar).also in the fine print, your cars speed, your safetybelt info.(whether you had it on or not) and position in a crash can be submitted for review for law enforcement. if you dont mind this then feel free to onstar. like some, i dont feel that its worth it to have the govt control. sorry to seem paranoid but not all of the info is ever revealed in these articles.
