Treasure hunting is not only intellectually challenging, it is a good way to get some exercise while enjoying an adventure. You can spend days or even weeks on a prolonged quest, or just while away a few hours hunting for lost riches. Here's how to find that hidden treasure trove.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Get a metal detector. A lot of treasure is found in the form of old coins, bullion and jewelry. Most of this can be found with the aid of a metal detector. Metal detectors are not cheap, but you can find used ones.
Step2
Search ghost towns. After doing a little research at the local library, find that ghost towns exist all over the nation, not just in the west. Many villages were established in earlier centuries only to end a short while later. The locations can be found at a local library or historical society. Once on the site, evidence of old buildings can sometimes be seen.
Step3
Look around property surrounding old homes, or ruins of older homes. Even into the twentieth century, many people mistrusted banks and would hide cash and other valuable items in or around homes. Often things were buried, in order to avoid being destroyed in a house fire.
Step4
Research legends and high-profile treasures. There are stories and legends rooted in every area of the country. Although many details may be elaborated or misconstrued over the years, most legends begin with a true story. Truly hunting for a large treasure will take much time and commitment in intellectual practices as well as physically looking for the treasure.

Tips & Warnings

  • Get permission before searching on private or government property to avoid trespassing.
