1
Go to graduate school. Most of the time, to actually have a career in the arts in the area you studied, a graduate degree is required. Since there is a much lower demand of workers with an arts degree than there is supply of them, those with graduate degrees usually get the jobs. If you cannot find a job with a bachelors degree in the arts, work a regular job and pursue a graduate degree part time or at night.

2
Get a career-oriented minor. It will help in the job market to have a minor that broadens your horizons. For instance, someone with a studio arts degree will have a better chance of getting a job if they have a marketing or business minor.

Get internships throughout college. You need experience. Be willing to work free during summers, holiday breaks or in your spare time. Most graduates need a paying job right away. Working free in an art gallery or museum during college will put you a step ahead of other graduates.

Study and work at what you love. The happiest people live and work by the philosophy to do what you love and it will somehow pay. If you're passionate and innovative, your career will work out. Don't give up.
