Greenpeace, founded in 1971 in Vancouver, Canada, is the largest environmental organization in the world, with over five million members and offices in 20 countries. Initially concerned primarily with stopping whaling industry abuses, Greenpeace now is active in lobbying for a variety of issues, including stopping global warming, preserving earth's oceans and forests and promoting sustainable agriculture. They are best identified with their five sailing vessels that criss-cross the oceans promoting environmental awareness.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a Donation. Those wishing to help Greenpeace, but without the time to devote, can make a donation to Greenpeace projects, either online, via telephone at (800) 326-0959 or by mail. Contributions are tax deductible and those who donate $30 or more receive the Greenpeace newsletter.

  2. Step 2

Take Action. You can help the Greenpeace cause in a number of ways. Sign an online letter to your member of Congress regarding several key issues. Host a "Bake Sale to Save the Whales," where the profits go to Greenpeace. Or, become part of Greenpeace's grassroots action team. They offer training sessions throughout the year.

  3. Step 3

Join the Discussion. Tell a friend, co-worker or family member you care about the Greenpeace agenda. The Greenpeace website has email templates and free ecards to send your friends.

  4. Step 4

Work for Greenpeace. Greenpeace offers a number of full and part-time jobs, some paid and some volunteer. Most of these are listed on their website. A passion for protecting the environment is preferred.
