How to Make a Luminaria

• Sand or gravel
• Votive candles or tea lights

1. Open each paper bag to stand on its own. Fold the top 2 inches of each bag for stability. This will come in handy when using luminarias on a windy night.
2. Fill the bottom of each bag with 1 to 2 inches of sand or gravel. The sand weighs down the bag and gives a secure place for the candle.
3. Place one votive candle or tea light in the bottom center of each bag. Gently push it into the sand so it can't move around.
4. Arrange the bags 1 to 4 feet apart from each other along your driveway or sidewalk.
5. Light luminaria's candle using a BBQ fireplace lighter or fireplace matches. Using a longer device allows you to light the luminaria on the ground without burning yourself or the bag.
6. Decorate your luminaria using stencils for specific holiday or festive theme. Purchase colored bags and create a stunning look for your home.
