Beanies are snug fitting hats that are crocheted. The beanies can be made in a variety of sizes: Small enough to fit a preemie, large enough to fit an adult and all sizes in between. Crocheted beanies make great hats to keep a newborn's body temperature regulated. They are adorable on toddlers and kids and of course ever popular amongst the college student set.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Crochet hook
  • Yarn
  1. Step 1

Learn the basics of crochet. There are many different kinds of crochet stitches, but for this project, you will need to know how to do chain stitches, double crochet, single crochet, rounds, decreases and slip stitches.

  2. Step 2

Browse the web for crochet patterns to make beanies. There are sites with free patterns listed in the Resources section below. In addition to searching for beanies, you may also try the queries "crochet hat" or "crochet cap" to see if they turn up something you like.

  3. Step 3

Using your crochet hook, soft yarn and the pattern you found from your search, you can begin to make a crocheted beanie hat.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are crocheting the beanie hat for a baby or someone with sensitive skin, make sure you use one of the yarns rated as "Baby Soft."
