Create this easy and inexpensive pumpkin costume for Halloween and you are sure to be the hit of the neighborhood. Draw a masterpiece or merely a friendly pumpkin face on poster board, cut out your Halloween costume and you are ready for a trick or treat.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Measure your chest area and add a few inches to the measurement. Ascertain if you can move your arms freely with a piece of poster board this size hung from your shoulders. Measure the length from your shoulder to the top of your leg. Write down both length and width measurements.

  2. Step 2

Purchase orange poster board from a local craft store that is larger then both the length and width measurements. Buy two pieces of orange poster board and twine for your pumpkin Halloween costume.

  3. Step 3

Draw the shape of a pumpkin on the poster board lightly with a pencil. Place both pieces of poster board together and cut out the pumpkin using scissors.

  4. Step 4

Punch two holes, in the right front and the back of the poster board to make suspenders for the pumpkin. Repeat on the left side of the pumpkin. Insert the 8 to 12 inches of twine through both holes on the right side of the pumpkin and tie off the twine. Repeat for the left side of the pumpkin.

  5. Step 5

Hang the pumpkin Halloween costume over your head with the twine resting on your shoulders. Assess if you can move your hands freely and if the pumpkin hangs comfortably. Adjust twine length if necessary.

  6. Step 6

Add a triangle nose, mouth and two eyes on the poster board using a black marker.

  7. Step 7

Dress in black, put on your pumpkin, and go trick or treating.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider adding black make up and a green hat to your pumpkin Halloween costume.
  • Reinforce the twine holes with duck tape or grommets if necessary.
