How to Make a Woody Woodpecker Costume

Create a Woody Woodpecker costume with only a few basic materials and a little bit of time. Make a trip to the craft store, look through things at home and get a picture of Woody to reference. Follow the steps below to put together a Woody Woodpecker costume for a costume party, to trick-or-treat or just play.

Things You'll Need

• White feather boa
• Red feather boa
• White fabric
• Fabric glue
• Yellow beak
• Red stocking cap
• White gloves
• Yellow shoes, sock or slippers
• Blue sweatsuit

Instructions

1. Begin with a blue sweat suit or sleeper. Attach a large white oval reaching from almost the neck to the almost the pelvis. The oval should be from some sort of white fabric, fleece or knit, and can be glued or sewn on.

2. Make a white feathery ruff from a boa. A feather boa can be purchased at most craft stores in many different colors. Play with the boa around the neck until a desired length and shape is found. Cut the boa to desired length and fasten around the neck with a small rubber band, piece of twisty tie or just a string. The boas should hang halfway down the chest, several inches past the collar bone.

3. Find a yellow beak. Yellow beaks can be found at costume stores. If one cannot be purchased, make one from cardboard or paper mache. Woody Woodpecker's beak is very pointy, kind of short and turns up at the end.

4. Create the red head piece by attaching pieces of a red feathered boa to the top of a red stocking cap. The stocking cap should be loosely woven, but tight fitting. Cut the red boa into a 4 and 8 inch section. The clump should be very thick. Poke the varying pieces of red feather through the top of the stocking cap. Manipulate the pieces until your find the right shape. Then secure the ends inside the tip of the hat with glue.

5. Complete the costume with white gloves and yellow shoes and socks. Big yellow slippers that resemble bird feet would work well.
