Step 1
Store food in the snow. Leave food in the fridge that won't go bad if there's a loss of electricity. Milk, meats, cheeses, and other perishable items can be easily stored in a cover area right outside the door.
-
Step 2
Buy ready-to-eat meals. No, not the ones the military has. Stock cans of stews and raviolis. Stock cans of fruits and vegetables. Stock anything you can find in the store that you can take the lid off of and eat right out of the jar or can.
-
Step 3
Fill your pantry with dry goods. Stock rice, oatmeal and cereals. Instant oatmeal only needs water added to it or can be eaten raw. Rice is easy to add to any dish to fill the tummy when it's rumbly. And cereal is always a good food for a meal or dessert.
-
Step 4
Stock up on energy bars. These can be fast and easy. They are also good if you have to leave on the run. Just slip one into your back pocket and go. Candy, cereal or granola bars will work just as well.
-
Step 5
Keep plenty of water on hand along with water purification tablets. Pick the tablets up at a camping store.
