Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Primer
- Paint or stain
- Sponge brush or nylon paint brush
- Acrylic sealant
Step1
Coat the trellis with a primer using a sponge brush or nylon paint brush. Adding primer is an important step and will allow the paint or stain to adhere to the wood without peeling.
Step2
Allow the primer to dry completely.
Step3
Apply the paint or stain to the trellis using a sponge brush or nylon paint brush. Use smooth, even strokes. Paint one section of the trellis completely before moving on to the next section to ensure continuous coverage.
Step4
Allow the paint to dry completely.
Step5
Paint on a second coat of paint or stain. A second coat of paint or stain provides long-lasting color and reduces peeling.
Step6
Use a clear acrylic coating to protect the paint and keep water from penetrating the paint or stain. You can apply two coats of the acrylic if you plan to place the trellis where it will get constant sun exposure.
