How to Find Ghosts

There is no definitive answer as to whether ghosts exist or not. There are as many believers as skeptics, and both search for proof to validate their stance. To do this, they become ghost hunters and investigate areas where reports of paranormal phenomenon have occurred in an attempt to either refute or support the claims.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Camera
  • Voice recorder
  • Wind chimes
  • Dowsing rods
  • Flashlights
  1. Step 1

    Go where dead people gather--cemeteries.

  2. Step 2

Search for places where people have either suffered or died—either accidentally, voluntarily, due to natural causes or were murdered—such as in hospitals, hotels and prisons.

  3. Step 3

Take a ghost tour. You're not guaranteed to see ghosts, but many ghost tours cover a city's historic district and tell tales of the ghastly and sorrowful fates that have met former citizens.

  4. Step 4

Visit ghost towns. As with the ghost tour, you're not guaranteed a ghost sighting but you never know what you might encounter when roaming the remains of an abandoned town.

  5. Step 5

Join a paranormal or ghost hunter group. People experiencing unexplained phenomenon often seek out ghost hunter groups to investigate the activity in hopes they can explain it.

  6. Step 6

Bring along devices such as cameras, tape recorders, dowsing rods or wind chimes to "capture" ghosts--or at least evidence of them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Private houses--or even older ones that have been turned into museums, restaurants or tourist attractions—where deaths have occurred also make good places to search for ghosts.
  • Another benefit to joining a paranormal group is that you can pool your resources to afford more expensive equipment used to hunt ghosts such as thermal imaging cameras, electromagnetic field (EMF) detectors and night vision cameras.
  • Don't trespass. Always make sure to obtain permission from the owners of private property before conducting any investigation, whether you're doing it yourself or with a ghost hunting group.
  • Never ghost hunt alone, especially in unfamiliar territory. Someone should always know where you are and when to expect you back.
