Step 1
Remember there are different types of spread betting. It doesn't just apply to sports. Although sporting events are probably the most popular type of spread betting, there are also spread bets placed in the financial world as well.
-
Step 2
Do your research. It can't be much simpler than that. When it comes to gambling that has a win or loss outcome, some research is necessary but it doesn't require all the facts to be known like spread betting. There are statistics and past events that should be looked at, no matter what type of spread betting you're ready to dive into.
-
Step 3
Figure out how to "read the board." When it comes to betting on your favorite sports team, it's important to determine what chances you have to win as well as when the game is and who else is playing. These factors can be confusing if you don't know what to read into and how to use the tools given to you.
-
Step 4
Consider all the facts when it comes to placing your bets. Research may be key. However, it's important to look into all the factors: weather conditions, location of play and other outside factors that might have an impact on the betting outcome. While this may not apply to financial spread betting all of the time, it's still important to consider more than just your research.
-
Step 5
Find out if there is a cap on how much you can win for each bet. While there might be a cap on the amount you can lose, which is great for an inexperienced better, it also can mean that there is a cap on the amount you can take home. Double check beforehand on the cap, so you can determine how much risk you'd like to take.

on 9/26/2009 I'm terribly new to betting on NFL games, so I apologize if this is a stupid question, but do all bets involving the spread pay out the same?
