How to Install the Telephone Dialer on a Home Security System

One of the most important features of any home security system is the telephone dialer. Alerting friends, neighbors and the police is key to protecting your family and apprehending intruders. Some systems have call lists that can allow you to automatically dial three or more numbers. • Phone adapter or splitter

1. Verify that your system is compatible with or contains a telephone dialer system before purchasing your system. While this sounds obvious, there are many simpler systems that only incorporate sirens into their packages.

2. Determine if you need a phone jack splitter or multiplier to have access to the phone system. These simply plug into the phone jack and are inexpensive.

3. Route your phone line from the wall outlet to the control panel for the alarm system. This can vary in complexity depending upon how well you wish to conceal the line.

4. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and program your desired contact numbers into the system. Usually one of these will be local police and a trusted neighbor or family member.

5. Contact someone on your list to check the system (not 911) to test out your new dialer after it is activated.
