Step 1
Buy from a reputable dealer. A majority of the fireworks stands around are chains that have been selling fireworks for a long time, so choose to shop there. They're properly licensed to sell safe fireworks. You can also buy safe fireworks from a grocery or retail store.
-
Step 2
Steer clear of illegal fireworks. These include explosive devices such as M-80s, M-100s and Blockbusters to name just a few. These items are potentially lethal, federally banned and are rated as actual explosives that can cause serious injury and death.
-
Step 3
Purchase fireworks that have labels. If they don't have any labels or aren't labeled with the ingredients, the manufacturer and instructions then they may not be legal. Report these items and the distributor to your police department.
-
Step 4
Choose only manufactured fireworks to be safe. Homemade fireworks are dangerous and can be deadly. Don't use kits that are designed to make your own fireworks. They're not safe.
-
Step 5
Select fireworks that are safe for the area in which you live. If you live close to a busy intersection then it's not a good idea to use fireworks that shoot across the ground or launch into the air.
