Puerto Rico's abundant golf courses make it the Caribbean's premier golf destination. Dubbed as "Scotland in the Sun," Puerto Rico currently boasts at least 23 courses, many designed by golf pros. Set on the fringes of jungles, seaside fairways and rolling forests, many of the courses of Puerto Rico are part of the island's most popular luxury resorts. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Heighten the drama of your game by playing at the Wyndam El Conquistador, the Caribbean's first course designed by Arthur Hills. Travel & Leisure hosts its Golf's Good Life Weekend here.
Step2
Play at Chi Chi Rodriguez's favorite course. The golf course at the Hyatt Dorado Beach Resort & Casino has three of Chi Chi's "Top Five" island holes and was ranked "Top 10" by Jack Nicklaus.
Step3
Brave the hazards of the course at the Hyatt Regency Cerromar. With water hazards, fishing holes and winds, the course is one of the most challenging on Puerto Rico.
Step4
Enjoy the view at the Westin Rio Mar. This course is set against the backdrop of spectacular ocean views and was designed by George Fazio and Greg Norman.
Step5
Whip it past the watering holes at the Dorado del Mar Golf Club, a beach-side championship layout full of hole hazards and designed by Chi Chi Rodriguez.
Step6
Finish with a flourish. The Palm Course at the Palmas del Mar Resort & Villas, designed by Gary Plaer, features four great par-fives, tight fairways and small greens. Rees Jones designed the popular Flamboyan Course.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make reservations. January through April, tee-times on the most desired courses will book up.
  • Take an "island hopper golf tour," if you want to play several courses in a day or week.
  • U.S. citizens traveling to Puerto Rico do not need passports or visas to visit nor do they have to go through customs or immigration.

Here is another resort if you head to the southern part of the island called Costa Caribe Golf and Country Club.
I am a member at the club and love the access off the highway 52. After you play a round of golf, you have the option of the pool or beach. Great services and relaxing atmosphere.
