The holidays are a festive time full of baking and craft making. This is especially fun to do with the kids because they're full of wonder and excitement about the season. If cookie baking is your specialty why not make it more festive and make a holiday cookie tree. Follow these steps to learn how.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Bake some cookies using your favorite sugar or gingerbread cookie recipe. These are the most recommended type of cookies because they bake up stiff and will hang on a tree without breaking. Poke a hole in the cookie using a straw before baking.

  2. Step 2

Re-cut the hole in each cookie if needed then allow the cookies to cool, preferably overnight. If the cookies are frosted while they're still slightly warm they will break.

  3. Step 3

String a ribbon through the cooled cookie's hole. Tie it at the top leaving a loop for hanging it on the tree. Use pretty, decorative ribbon.

  4. Step 4

Decorate each cookie with different colors of cake frosting. Use red hots and other types of candy to add holiday flare. Be sure to create lots of fun details because these are going to be ornaments and will be seen by everyone.

  5. Step 5

Trim the tree with your holiday cookies. Have friends and family add their own holiday cookies to your tree to add a personal family touch to your holidays this year.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have an adult do the baking because the pan and oven are very hot. Do not let the children participate in this project until the cookies have cooled.
