As a disabled resident of Maryland, you may file an application for disabled parking placards or disability license plates. The disabled parking placards are issued for permanent or temporary disabilities. Your disability must be in accordance with the disability definition rules under the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) and be certified as a qualified disability by your doctor or other medical practitioner.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Review the MVA definitions of disability for purposes of obtaining disability parking plates or placards to determine if you qualify.

  2. Step 2

Download the application form VR-210 from the Maryland MVA website. Complete applicant Sections A, B and D. Check the appropriate box to request one placard, two placards, one plate, or one placard and one plate. Disability license plates are only issued to disabled persons who are the owner of the vehicle.

  3. Step 3

Give the application form to your physician or other authorized medical professional to complete the certification in Section C and classify the disability as temporary or permanent. A disability lasting between 3 weeks and 6 months is considered temporary.

  4. Step 4

Mail the completed application to the Maryland MVA at the address shown on the form. Permanent placards are blue and valid for 4 years. Temporary placards are red and have a maximum duration of 6 months.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have lost a leg, foot, arm or hand, you can self-certify the disability by appearing in person at the Motor Vehicle Administration office.
