You've made the leap from daily commuter to stay-at-home worker, now you need to ensure that your work is enjoyable so you don't give up on it. Small changes to your daily routine make working at home pleasant and fun. You might even start confusing the word work with fun. When people ask you what you do, you can say, "I have fun all day and get paid for it!"

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Make your environment pleasant. Reserve an area of your house as your office and decorate it the way you want. It's your work space and you don't have to live under corporate standards of decor anymore. Go ahead and add that hammock. Add different types of lighting so you can adjust the lights to suit your mood. Decorate with plants and knickknacks. Have music you enjoy playing in the background. Even add a small television if you want.
Step2
Work at a home job that you enjoy. If blogging for bucks isn't your thing, don't do it. There are many jobs available so there's no reason to lower your standards by doing something all day that you find disagreeable. Choose something you want to do and you'll find the day flies by and you'll have to be reminded that it's quitting time.
Step3
Plan your day and make sure to include some "me" time. Workers at an office take lunch off and several breaks during the day. They also chat with co-workers, run to the coffee machine, and leave early to pick up their dry cleaning. Just because you're working at home doesn't mean you have to actually work as much. You save time by not commuting so translate that into more free time that doesn't come with guilt attached to it.
Step4
Make your work plan flexible. You shouldn't feel guilty if your muse is missing one day and you don't get as much work done as you planned. Have back-up plans for things you can get accomplished on those days, such as doing research at the library, making a trip to the office supply store, or networking with former colleagues.
Step5
Eat and drink a variety of foods. If you eat a sandwich for lunch every day, you're bound to get bored. Take the time to make a healthy meal or even eat out occasionally. Monitor your energy levels and plan your meals and snacks for when you need a pick-me-up. Vary your drinks too. Coffee is scrumptious but you probably don't need 10 cups a day.
Step6
Find out what inspires you and include that in your work plan. If you need to read the newspaper to get writing ideas, then that counts as work. If picking fresh flowers from the garden each morning sparks your imagination for graphics design, do it. Anything that makes you work better should be considered work.
Step7
Add exercise into your daily routine. Sitting all day isn't healthy and you might be dragging by the end of the day if you don't get some exercise. Schedule a work-out at the gym, a tennis match with a friend, or even a bicycle ride around your neighborhood to get your blood pumping.
Step8
Move to a different location in your house if you find yourself becoming stifled by your home office. Sit on the porch with your laptop or research while you soak in the tub.
Step9
Schedule a day off or vacation time, just like an office worker. If you have a doctor's appointment, go ahead and take the afternoon off for a visit to a friend or go see a movie. Don't tie yourself to your desk because you feel guilty not working.
