Getting an autograph from a college athlete is often easier than you'd think. Many star college athletes are made available for autographs throughout their season to promote the team, and most are happy to sign autographs when seen around town. To make sure you don't miss your chance to get your favorite athlete's autograph, follow these steps.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Call the university prior to the start of the season to find out if there will be a fan day. These usually happen a few weeks before the season. Also make sure to ask which athletes will be available for autographs.

  2. Step 2

Contact the alumni association to see if it has any events set up where student athletes might be present.

  3. Step 3

Wait outside the stadium or arena after practice. Most student athletes use the same route to enter and exit the venue. Stand outside the entrance with the item you want autographed.

  4. Step 4

Stake out the athletic parking lot and wait for the player to come to his car.

  5. Step 5

Find the athlete on campus or have someone you know that shares a class with a student athlete get the autograph for you.

  6. Step 6

Head to the night spots where most athletes hang out and ask politely for an autograph. Most will have no problem signing something.

  7. Step 7

Call the university to see if there are any pre- or post-game signings, or ask if they can have something signed for you as a donation to a worthy cause.

Tips & Warnings
  • You never know when you're going to run into a student athlete, especially if you live in a small college town. Always carry a pen and paper just in case you happen to get lucky.
  • Make sure that trying to seek out a student athlete doesn't turn into stalking. Just because the athlete signs some memorabilia doesn't mean she is your friend.
  • Some schools have implemented autograph policies that limit the number of autographs a player can sign in a calendar year. Familiarize yourself with these rules on each school's individual website.
