Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Open the door to be removed until you have easy access to the door hinges and pins.
Step2
While your assistant is securing the door with both hands, remove the hinge pins with your hammer and pry bar, bottom first then the top.
Step3
Place the door aside. Try to lay it flat rather than lean it up against a wall so that it will not fall.
Step4
Using your screwdriver (or drill), remove the screws from the hinges attached to the door frame.
Step5
If you are removing a door frame on a brick home you may need to use a utility knife or box cutter to cut the molding loose from the brick (typically sealed together with caulk).
If you intend on reusing any of the frame materials, carefully work from one end of the trim to the other using the pry bar to pull the trim away from the wall.
If you intend on replacing the frame and trim, you can use a hand saw to cut the trim into more manageable sections, then remove them the same way. If you do this, be sure to cut at an angle be careful not to damage the wall.

on 8/19/2008 The instructions are great up to the end, when there is a lack of detail. How is the frame attached to the wall? Is the frame a single unit, attached to the threshold? Is the threshold fastened down or just the frame pieces? More details, please?

on 8/8/2007 There is a mechanism on the door that slows down the rate at which the door closes. Inside is a spring and a an air tube inside of the cylinder. As these "closers" get old, springs can wear out and/or the seals in the pneumatic system can begin to leak and fail. Your door slamming shut can either mean you need to adjust the setting on the closer or replace it altogether.
On the door mounted end of the closer there is an adjustment screw. Turning it clockwise will slow the door down, turning it counter clockwise will speed it up.
Another way to adjust it would be to adjust the the location/position of the mounting bracket.
If these don't work, you likely need a replacement. Be sure to bring the old one with you to the hardware store so that they can help you choose an appropriate replacement.

on 8/8/2007 How do you regulate how a storm/screen door closes? It takes a while to close and then it slams. How do you regulate it?
