the key to being a good nanny is listening to your parents wishes and loving their children, and all children all the time. I have been a nanny. I have been dubbed the "best babysitter in the world." I have been a teacher, a substitute, a classroom assistant. The nanny experience was by far the most fun and rewarding.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • love for children
  • lots of patience
  • dependability
  • flexibility
  • creativity
  • understanding
  • good listening skills
  • cooking skills & experience
  • organizational skills
  • cleaning experience
  • a fun young attitude
  • some babysitting experience or experience handling children
  • a clean record or background & a good track record. this is a important challenging task and not everyone is up to it.

Step1
there are many many steps to be a good nanny. 1) YOU MUST ABSOLUTELY AND UNCONDITIONALLY LOVE AND ADORE CHILDREN. having a happy childhood is not a pre-requisite.
Step2
2) you MUST ABSOLUTELY LISTEN AND OBEY the parents wishes and demands. They can get demanding at times. if your not willing to do as they say, you wont stay employed long.
Step3
3) you MUST LIKE TO COOK, CLEAN and ORGANIZE their home. you must help make their life easier as a family, and help to make their time together as a family quality time. Nannys are employed by parents who work, so family togetherness is a top priority. Make it clean, neat and tidy. Being a good nanny also means nannying the home and pets too.
Step4
4) you must be willing to go the extra mile, see a need or a problem area and try to make it better for the parent. there are times when the children are napping when you will be doing household duties. See to it that youre doing everything in your power to do them as you would in your own home and step it up a notch.
Step5
5) you MUST be reliable, dependable and ultra responsible. The family works outside the home or in some instances in the home, and they need you to be there consistently so they can get to their jobs.
Step6
6) you must have a clean record, no criminal behavior in your past as they will always check your background. if they dont they arent doing their jobs as parents. dont take the job if the fit isnt right. Think of what youre looking for in a person to care for your children if youre a parent.
Step7
7. A good nanny knows her boundaries. she knows when to back off and when to go above and beyond. She knows her duties and follows them to a T. Pretend your raising your own child. Consistency is the key to all good behavior.

Tips & Warnings

  • being a good nanny doesnt mean reading People Magazine while the kids are napping.
  • being a good nanny involves more than loving the kids, you must love the parents too.
  • being a good nanny means you will be taking care of the pets in the home. Do it right and treat the pet like you would your own. Dont ignore pets, they are family members too.
  • being a good nanny means you will have to prepare meals. Be creative. Clean up after the messes and do the dishes; put them away.
  • being a good nanny means you will have to work overtime some days, or not work others. Be flexible and prepared for any situation.
  • being a good nanny means accepting any unusual request or demand and doing it without complaint. life isnt black and white and neither are your employers.
  • being a good nanny requires alot of patience, stamina and energy. if you dont have any of those qualities, you wont make it. Kids are ALOT of work, and if you have them all day, every day, you will be tired. Get used to it, you'll be drained at the end of the day so get plenty of sleep the night before.
  • Being a good nanny requires you to get creative and find solutions to ongoing problems. You must understand what makes kids tick. Having some babysitting or classroom experience helps in this area. Each day will be different and present new/different problems or situations. The more you work with the family, the more they work with you to fulfill your personal needs. its a give and take situation.
  • know how to have fun with the kids. the kids will pick up on the fact you enjoy them by responding better to you and listen better & more consistently.
  • DO NOT BECOME A NANNY IF YOU DONT ABSOLUTELY ENJOY CHILDREN AND THEIR ANTICS.
  • DO NOT BECOME A NANNY IF YOU DONT LIKE TO FOLLOW ORDERS FROM EMPLOYERS.
  • DONT BECOME A NANNY IF YOURE NOT WILLING TO GO THE EXTRA MILE.
  • DO NOT BECOME A NANNY IF YOU HAVE A QUESTIONABLE PAST. IT WILL COME OUT.
  • LOVE WHAT YOUR DOING AND THE FAMILY WILL LOVE YOU AND MAKE YOU PART OF THEIR FAMILY, remember "Family Affair" on TV??!!!!!
