Things You'll Need:
- Xbox 360 Console (Core or Premium Model)
- Xbox 360 HD Component AV Cable (Optional)
- Xbox 360 HD VGA Cable (Optional)
- High Defintion TV

Step 1
Check your TV. Is it High-Definition? This is usually shown by the 'HD-Ready' badge on the TV or be listed in the instruction manual. Also check to see what resolution it can handle. (480p, 720p etc.)

Check the connection type on the back. If it has Component Video, it should 3 ports with Red, Blue and Green, plus additional white and red for sound. If it has VGA Connection, it should have a monitor port marked on it.

Set up your Xbox 360 according to the instruction manual, and connect either the Component Video cable or VGA HD Cable to the console and connect up to your TV.

Switch on your Xbox 360 and TV. Check through the TV's 'EXT' or 'Input' channels to see if the picture comes up.

If the picture comes up, head to the Settings by moving right on the 360 Dashboard, and choose 'Display Settings'. The connection type should be displayed.

If it's Component Video, choose from the resolutions 480p, 720p, 1080i or 1080p, depending on what your TV can take. If you want to test it, choose an option and press 'A' to test. If the screen shows nothing, press 'B' to go back and try another setting. Accept when done.

If you are using VGA, choose the resolution that the TV can display. For a 17''-20'' Screen, the approximate resolution should be 1366x768. Test each resolution to check which one is right for you. Accept when done.
