How to Attend the Hispanic Heritage Awards

Since 1987, the Hispanic Heritage Awards program has changed from a small White House ceremony to a program that is broadcast on television in both English and Spanish. The awards recognize important contributions in the U.S. by Hispanic Americans. Past recipients include celebrities Antonio Banderas, Sonia Manzano and Soledad O'Brien. Attendance is by invitation only. However, there are other ways you can contribute to or participate in the Hispanic Heritage Awards even if you cannot physically attend the ceremony.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

1. Attend the Hispanic Heritage Awards as a nominee. Excel in one of the following disciplines and carry your vision to the community: leadership, sports, literature, education and the arts. Someone is honored in each of these disciplines at the Hispanic Heritage Awards each year.
2. Obtain a nomination in one or more disciplines by one or more of the HHA partner organizations. Nomination packets are received in the Spring each year.
3. Have the person or organization that nominates you turn in the nominating packet(s) on time. The Hispanic Heritage Awards coordinator will then send the packet(s) to the Selection Committee.
4. Get selected to win an award in order to attend the Hispanic Heritage Awards. There are eight members of the Selection Committee, each of whom is an expert in a different subject. They include past recipients, Board of Director members and a youth award recipient. The names of the Selection Committee members are kept in confidence until after the award winners are announced.
5. Enjoy the Awards as a guest of an attendee. Honorees and invited guests each receive a certain number of invitations each year.
6. Watch the ceremony on television if you cannot be in attendance. Visit the Foundation's website for updates on when the ceremony will take place and when it will be broadcast.
