Making your own hair care products is as easy as opening your refrigerator! The basic building blocks of all natural products are easy and inexpensive. Try these hair care recipes for gorgeous hair.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Avocado
  • Coconut milk
  • Beer
  • Jojoba oil
  • Mayonnaise
  • Baby oil
  • Egg
  • Lemon juice
  • Sea salt
  • Aloe
  1. Step 1

To make your own products you will need clean storage containers to store the products in the refrigerator. Never leave these products sitting in the bathroom because they do not have preservatives added and they are made with ingredients that are perishable.

  2. Step 2

    Deep Conditioner
    Ingredients:
1 small jar of REAL mayonnaise
    1/2 of an avocado
    Directions:
Place both ingredients in a medium bowl and squish together with your fingers until the color is mint green.
    Apply:
Smooth the paste into your hair all the way to the tips. Put on a plastic shower cap and leave on for 20 minutes. For deeper conditioning put a hot, damp towel around your head over the shower cap. If you have really long hair and only need deep conditioning at the ends, cut the ingredients in half and apply only to the ends of your hair.

  3. Step 3

    Ingredients:
    1/2 cup of real mayonnaise
Apply: Comb the mayonnaise through your damp hair after shampooing. Wrap a towel around your head and wait 20 minutes. Shampoo as usual.
Special Note: Make sure to use REAL Mayonnaise and NOT salad dressing. Salad Dressing will dry your hair out.

  4. Step 4

    Ingredients:
    1 avocado
    Coconut milk
Directions: Peel and mash the avocado, and then add coconut milk a little at a time while blending with a fork. Keep blending until you reach the consistency of bottled conditioner.
Apply: Comb it through the hair and let sit for 10 -15 minutes,

  5. Step 5

    Ingredients:
    1-cup WARM beer
    1-teaspoon jojoba oil
    Directions:
    Mix ingredients together
    Apply:
Massage through hair. Rinse well. You may want to shampoo afterward if your hair remains oily.

  6. Step 6

    Ingredients:
    1-teaspoon baby oil
    1 egg yolk
    1/2-cup water
    Directions:
Beat the egg yolk until it’s frothy, slowly add the oil while beating. Add the water and continue to beat until well mixed.
    Apply:
Massage into the scalp and throughout your hair. Rinse well.

  7. Step 7

My Favorite! You can substitute other fruits for the avocado, but I think it works best!
    Ingredients:
    Avocado
    One-tablespoon lemon juice
    One teaspoon of sea salt
    One tablespoon of pure aloe
    Directions:
Peel, remove seed, and mash the avocado. Add the next three ingredients and mix until you have a paste.
    Apply:
Comb through hair, and then cover hair with a plastic shower cap. Leave in for 20-30 minutes. Rinse, shampoo as usual.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid shampoos that contain sodium laurel sulfate, or sodium laureth sulfate. These chemicals are synthetic detergents that are used in dishwashing liquid and cleansers. Manufacturers use them because they lather well, but they are very harsh on your hair. Read your label and purchase shampoos made with decyl glucose, or decyl glucoside, which are much gentler.
  • Purchase hair products with essential oils, herbs and vegetable oils.
  • Essential oils such as rosemary, ylang-ylang and West Indian Bay help to stimulate hair growth.
  • Lavender and tea tree are naturally antiseptic and help to fight dandruff.
  • Vegetable oils such as soybean oil, safflower oil and corn oil are moisturizing and conditioning to the hair shaft.
  • Storage: Most recipes require refrigeration since they don't contain preservatives. Shelf Life is approximately 1 week.
  • Avoid using any of these products if you are allergic to it
