Things You'll Need:
- A complete understanding of acne. This includes the causes, types, and various treatment methods.
- An appointment with a licensed dermatologist.
-
Step 1
Acne is a very uncomfortable skin condition that affects millions of people worldwide. People with this particular condition often spend years experimenting with various treatment methods. There are virtually thousands of acne treatment solutions available today, and many people will spend years trying to find a solution that works for them. While it is important to understand that there is an effective treatment method available for each person with this skin condition, not every treatment method will be effective for each individual. It is important that a person knows that many different remedies for this condition will take time in order to be effective. If you have acne, it is important that you consult a licensed dermatologist in order to get an evaluation and possibly a prescription for your individual case.
-
Step 2
When treating your acne, it is important that you do not expect immediate results. Many people will find themselves discouraged because they implement the use of a particular remedy and after a couple of weeks it is not showing any signs of alleviation. While this is a common mindset that is experienced by acne sufferers, it is important to understand that the best acne treatment can take as long as two months to show signs of improvement with the condition. Even more crucial than this to keep in mind is the fact that once you experience relief of acne symptoms, you continue treatment methods to ensure that you have continued success in resolving your skin condition.
-
Step 3
The next thing that a sufferer of this particular skin ailment should keep in mind is that not all therapy designed for this particular condition is effective for all individuals. Each of us have different types of skin, and are exposed to different environmental factors. These conditions play a crucial role in the development of acne. Additionally, each person has a unique type of acne. This is why it is essential to ensure that a dermatologist is used to assess each case of this condition so that the most effective resolution is put into place.
-
Step 4
There are many different kinds of over-the-counter solutions for skin conditions. However, there are even more remedies that are available by prescription only. It is important to consult a specialist in the area of acne to determine if a prescription is the most effective means of treatment. A professional can instruct an individual on lifestyle changes, such as diet, in order to assist in resolving this particular issue as well. Implementing the use of professional help is an outstanding method of alleviating the symptoms associated with acne.
-
Step 5
If you suffer from this particular skin condition, and are seeking a resolution, there are many different venues that you can explore. However, the most effective acne treatment can be achieved by visiting a licensed dermatologist and acquiring a unique analysis of your particular type of acne. From this, the specialist will be able to provide an acne treatment that will work for you.

on 2/10/2009 After fighting acne for years, I discovered that a large part of the problem was that my skin was very sensitive. I cut way down on outbreaks by:
(1) only using cleansers with as few added chemicals as possible--in my case, either pure jojoba oil or unscented and uncolored glycerin soap;
(2) only using those cleansers once a day. I "wash" my face more often than that, but only by rinsing with water; and
(3) never using a washcloth or any other product on my face to rub my skin--thus, irritating it.
