How to conserve gas, especially when gas prices are rising, by working with what you got.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Car
  • sunshade
  1. Step 1

    Don't pump the gas pedal before starting your car.

  2. Step 2

    Make sure that your parking brake is released all the way.

  3. Step 3

    Don't floor the pedal when accelerating from a stop.

  4. Step 4

    Don't ride the brake, try using a constant speed

  5. Step 5

    Use cruise control while on the highway

  6. Step 6

    If possible, and obviously safe turn off the car when stopped for more than 30 seconds

  7. Step 7

    Make sure your tires are always inflated, check every 2 weeks if possible

  8. Step 8

    Get regular tune ups and oil changes

  9. Step 9

    Make sure your gas cap fits tightly

  10. Step 10

    Make sure that your cooling system thermostat is working the right way.

Tips & Warnings
  • Fill up when it's cooler outside. Heated fumes create more ozone.
  • Clear the junk out of your trunk, less weight causes less gas usage
  • Use a sun shade. when your car is cooler it uses less air conditioning... also park somewhere in the shade(kind of the same effect)
  • Durring the winter use a block heater to warm up your engine.
  • Try to avoid traffic
  • If you're feeling really adventurous, you can make your own biofuel from used vegetable oil, which is available for free at most restaurants,You can use these to make your own heating oil as well.
