The Edinburgh Dungeons is a historical experience like no other! Situated beneath central Edinburgh, this collection of shows, rides and interactive special effects is a brilliant way to learn more about Scotland’s gruesome history. Ideal for a family trip, experiencing the scary but memorable Edinburgh Dungeons is not to be missed.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to www.thedungeons.com. By clicking on the link “Edinburgh” you will find all the information you need to plan your trip.

  2. Step 2

Decide when you wish to go. The Edinburgh Dungeons are open all year round, although they are always busier during school holidays and around Halloween.

  3. Step 3

Book a ticket online. By doing this you will avoid any queues and will also get your ticket for a cheaper rate than if you were to buy at the door. Tickets cost around £10 each.

  4. Step 4

Decide how you will get there. The entrance is a 1-minute walk from Waverley Train Station. A number of regular bus services also stop nearby on Regent Terrace. Car Parking can be found at the nearby Waverley Station or New Street Car-parks.

Tips & Warnings
  • Book early or late time-slots for cheaper prices. Booking for before 11 a.m. or after 3.30 p.m. will bring the price down by roughly a third.
  • Avoid queues by buying fast track tickets online. As one of Edinburgh’s prime visitor attractions, in peak seasons the dungeons will be very busy.
  • Take advantage of the student discount.
  • It is best to avoid bringing a car to central Edinburgh. The city has an awkward one-way system.
  • Do not visit the dungeons if you are of a nervous disposition. They are fairly scary and contain exhibitions some may find gruesome.
