How to Become a State Trooper in Idaho

Things You'll Need:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  1. Step 1

    Complete the application and take a preliminary test at the Idaho State Police website. You will receive an email invitation to continue with the selection process based on your test score.

  2. Step 2

    Pass the oral exam and physical fitness test that will be given at Idaho State Police Headquarters in Meridian.

  3. Step 3

    Give correct and factual information in your application to be appraised in a background check that comprises personal finance, education, employment and criminal history.

  4. Step 4

    Complete the following three tests successfully: polygraph, psychological and medical.

  5. Step 5

    Accept a final offer to attend the Idaho state trooper training academy after completing the above steps.

Tips & Warnings
  • Every Idaho state trooper has a car assigned to them that they can take home and use for personal use.
  • Do not apply to become an Idaho state trooper if you have used illicit drugs or have a conviction in your past.
