The Washington coast is a beautiful area that boasts beaches, mountain ranges and rainforests. Most of the area's inns are nestled in small towns peppered with antique shops and homey restaurants. Outdoor activities abound and major cities are only a few hours away. This article will show you the different features to consider when choosing a bed and breakfast that fits your taste and style.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Imagine the geographic setting and level of seclusion you hope to experience. The town of Hoquiam, situated between Grays Harbor and the Olympic Mountain range, offers historic buildings and beautiful shorebirds. Go inland to Montesano to find fishing and boating at nearby lakes and rivers. For a true coastal experience, visit Ocean Park, Ilwaco or Long Beach located on the 28-mile Long Beach Peninsula. Beach activities include clamming, swimming, visiting lighthouses, boating and deep-sea fishing.

  2. Step 2

Consider your reason for staying at a bed and breakfast. Different inns are better suited for romantic getaways, family vacations, weddings and business events.

  3. Step 3

Decide which amenities you can and cannot live without. Inns often feature different room amenities than hotels. In some inns, each room may not include a private bath and in-room telephone. Typically only a few of the rooms provide a CD/DVD/TV, refrigerator, Internet access, fireplace, deck and hot tub. Ask the innkeeper for a list of amenities before you reserve a room.

  4. Step 4

Browse the unique features of each bed and breakfast. Many inns seek to recreate the historical atmosphere of the time period when they were built, while others pride themselves on a more modern feel. Some inns are well known for their cuisine or specialty dishes, while others offer lush gardens, panoramic views and peaceful isolation.

  5. Step 5

Call the inn directly and ask about prices and specials. Many inns offer discounts during the off-season when you can still expect a pleasant experience due to the coast's mild winters.

  6. Step 6

Identify any inn policies that could render it inappropriate for your situation. Some bed and breakfasts have restrictions on children, pets and smoking. Many older buildings may not be handicapped accessible.
