The Blood Type Diet was an eating plan developed by Dr. Peter D'Adamo and was detailed in his bestselling book "Eat Right 4 Your Type." This diet bases the food that you eat on your blood type. It is meant to help people achieve their ideal weight and maintain overall good health.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Find out your blood type. You must know your blood type to start the Blood Type Diet. If you don't know this information, you can send away for a blood testing kit and find out the results from the comfort of your home.
Step2
Read the analysis for each food product that you consume. You can check on the Eat Right 4 Your Type website or purchase a copy of the book to find out this information.
Step3
Eat foods based on your ancestry. You should eat foods based on when your blood type was first identified. For example, Blood Type O was first identified around 50,000 BC. Therefore O types should eat a high protein diet to lose weight.
Step4
Eliminate the recommended foods from your diet. Based on the period in which your blood type was identified, you'll know what foods you should not eat. For most of the blood types, processed foods, alcohol and junk food are prohibited.
Step5
Give the diet a trial run. Try the Blood Type Diet for a week to see if your body responds to it. You are likely to drop a couple of pounds when you initially start it.

Tips & Warnings

  • This diet is rarely recommended by physicians and nutritionists. They state that there is no proven link between weight loss and blood type.
  • The Blood Type Diet is one of the hardest diets to follow. In the beginning, you may have to look up an analysis of each food item that you plan to eat.
