Tips & Warnings
  • Ask for a certificate of authenticity when making a purchase from a vendor you don't know or trust.
  • The term "CDV" is used on the Internet for Civil War era photographs. The letters stand for "Carte de Visite" as photographs from that time were left as calling cards when people went on a visit.
  • Rare Civil War memorabilia is worth more money. Anything related to the Confederate Army or the Confederate States of America is sought after for this reason.
  • Be aware of scammers on the Internet; learn how to tell fake artifacts from authentic items.
  • Be wary of an antiques dealer who won't issue a certificate of authenticity.
