How to Tame Curly Hair
Curly hair: friend or foe? For some curly-tops, finding a system to get their ringlets under manageable control can be tough. It's a task made even harder with the very elements working against them. It is not, however, impossible to tame curly hair. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need

- Wide-tooth comb
- Curl-activating gel
- Blow dryer with diffuser
- Anti-frizz serum or smoothing agent (optional)

Instructions

1
Wash hair as many times as needed using curl-friendly shampoo. Unless your hair tends to get oily quickly, use a moisturizing formula.
-
2
Use a generous amount of conditioner. Leave in hair for approximately 2 minutes. Shampooing alone is not enough for curly hair to retain moisture, and dried-out curls are nearly impossible to work with.

3
Pat-dry hair with a towel after washing. Rubbing the hair with a towel can cause the hair to fray, making frizz an even bigger problem.
-
4
Detangle wet hair using the wide-tooth comb. Start at the ends and then work up to the roots to avoid tearing or snagging.
-
5
Rub curl activating gel into palms and massage through wet hair. The amount of gel used will depend on the length of hair. Be careful not to use too much, or your hair will be stiff and crunchy when dried.
-
6
Get curls into shape by scrunching sections of hair with your hands. You can also twist sections of wet hair around your fingers.
-
7
Allow hair to air-dry, or use the hair dryer and diffuser at the lowest possible setting. This allows retention of moisture and keeps curls from quickly drying out.
-
8
Tame flyaways and frizzies using a small amount of antifrizz serum after the hair is dry.
-
9
Keep style in place using a small misting of the light-hold hair spray.
