How to Install New Memory
Installing new memory in a computer system can be a mystery to some. It is not difficult if you take the time to do the job thoroughly and without rushing. Memory comes in different configurations and types, so be sure to purchase memory that is compatible with your system.

Make certain the computer is off. Remove the power cable from the computer, then remove the side panel from the computer case.

Find the memory slots on the main board. Make sure you consult the main board manual for the requirements on the number of memory slots that must be populated at any given time.

Remove the memory piece from the packaging after ensuring that any static electricity has been discharged.

Insert one piece of memory into one memory slot, making sure that you insert it properly. Memory can only be inserted one way. Ensure that the memory is positioned properly in relation to the slot on the main board before attempting to insert.

Repeat step 4 as needed for additional pieces of memory.

Replace the side panel and secure. Reconnect the power cable and turn on the computer. The new memory should be recognized by the system, and Windows should start.

Tips & Warnings
To obtain maximum results, purchase memory cards two at a time from the same vendor, in the same size and speed. This will ensure that the system will use the memory to optimal performance.
If you did not insert the memory properly, the system should emit a series of beeps when it is turned on. Reinstall the memory, if necessary.
